Quinn Buckner, NBA player, coach, and legendary broadcaster for CBS, joins an elite group of sports dignitaries who have spoken previously at this event, including ESPN color commentator Dick Vitale, former Detroit Pistons and Dream Team coach, Chuck Daly, and Syracuse University head coach, Jim Boeheim.
Buckner possesses a wealth of basketball experience, having successfully performed at every level of the sport. Buckner remains only one of three players to have captured a championship ineach stage of his career. He won titles in high school (Thornbridge High School in 1972), in college (Indiana University in 1976), at the Olympics in 1976, and at the professional level with the 1984 Boston Celtics. Only Jerry Lucas and Magic Johnson have achieved similar feats.
Buckner graduated with a business degree from Indiana University in 1976, then moved to the hardwood of the NBA. He played for the Celtics, Milwaukee Bucks, and Indiana Pacers before moving to the broadcasting booth in 1986. Buckner has achieved equal success in every stage of his basketball career.
He worked for the Big Ten Network and ESPN for four years and later joined CBS in 1989 to cover the NBA and the NCAA, a position he maintained before leaving in 1992. Buckner resumed his duties with the network in 1994 after coaching the Dallas Mavericks. He has also worked stints as the color analyst for the Cleveland Cavaliers, for the NBA and ESPN Radio, and for TNT in the NBA Playoffs.
Buckner was born on August 20, 1954, and currently resides in Dallas, Texas.
