Mike Brey was named the 17th head coach at Notre Dame on July 14, 2000, and has compiled a 66-31 (.680) record in three seasons.
Brey is a 16-year veteran of the college ranks, having spent five years as head coach at the University of Delaware (1995-00) and eight seasons as an assistant at Duke University (1987-95). He owns a 165-83 (.665) record as head coach and has guided five of eight teams to NCAA tournament play; six of those teams have advanced to the postseason (one NIT appearance).
In his first season at Notre Dame, he led the Irish to the Big East West Division Championship (its first league regular season title in school history). In 2002-03, Brey guided Notre Dame to its first Sweet 16 appearance since 1987. He is the only coach in the program's history to lead its teams to three consecutive 20-win seasons and three straight NCAA tournament appearances in his first three years. Notre Dame is the only Big East school which has earned an NCAA tournament bid and won 10-or-more league games each of the last three seasons.
He won the 2003 Coaches vs. Cancer Champion Award in recognition of his fundraising efforts for the Coaches vs. Cancer program. Brey has raised more than $230,000 at both Notre Dame and Delaware.
He graduated from George Washington University in 1982 with a bachelor's degree in physical education. He and his wife, Trish, have two children Kyle (16) and Callie (13).
