Jay Bilas joined ESPN as a color commentator beginning with the 1995 college basketball season and provides expert commentary at courtside and in the studio for college and professional games. He writes for espn.com and ESPN Magazine and he contributes numerous reports for ESPN Sportscenter, including his "Under the Boards" column.
A graduate of Duke University, Bilas was a four-year starter for Mike Krzyzewski from 1982-86. He helped lead Duke to the 1986 NCAA Championship game. While at Duke, Bilas was only one of two student-athletes in the nation appointed to the NCAA's Long-Range Planning Committee (1985-86).
After graduation, Bilas was drafted by the Dallas Mavericks. He played professionally in Italy and Spain for three seasons. In 1990, he returned to Duke to attend law school and to serve as an assistant coach on Krzyzewski's staff for three years. During his stint on the Duke bench, the Blue Devils made it to the NCAA Final Four three times, winning the national title in 1991 and 1992.
Bilas is a member of the Screen Actors Guild and has appeared in nationally-run commercials for Minolta and Budweiser. He also had a feature role in the Columbia Pictures movie "I Come in Peace."
Since 1992, Bilas has been practicing law with the firm of Moore & Van Allen, PLIC, where he has specialized in commercial litigation. He lives in Charlotte, North Carolina, with his wife, Wendy, and two children, Victoria and Anthony.
