Lakers 23rd at Great Lakes Regional

KENOSHA, Wisc. - The Mercyhurst College finished 23rd at the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regional Championships at Wisconsin-Parkside. Victoria Caruso was the only Laker in the top 100, placing 64th.

Caruso covered the 6K course in a time of 24:05. Katie Jarocki finished 114th overall with her time of 25:02. Carrie Franze's 26:06 was good for 148th. Sara Rex and Laura McCarthy placed 157th and 158th, respectively. Rex crossed the line in 27:10, 20 seconds ahead of McCarthy.

Mercyhurst totaled 641 points beating out Kentucky Weslyan with 752 points. There were a total of 24 schools competing in the race and 164 participants.

Grand Valley State won the team title and had three of the top six runners in the field, including the individual champion, Laura Aderman. Aderman's 21:13 was 28 seconds faster than her nearest competitor. Grand Valley totaled just 47 points to win the team championship.

The host Rangers will join GVSU at the NCAA Division II Championships after placing second with 91 points. UWP did not have a finisher in the top five, but only 22 seconds elapsed between their top four placers.

Mercyhurst displacers Amanda Ehrbar and Allison Babcock also competed at the regional. Ehrbar traversed the course in 27:39 to finish 159th and Babcock's 27:46 was good for 160th.

The Great Lakes Regional ends the 2006 Laker season.
