Women's Cross Country 13th at GLIAC Championships

FINDLAY, Ohio - Gannon's sixth runner crossed the finish line ahead the number six runner from Mercyhurst to break a tie for 12th as the Lakers finished 13th at the 2006 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships at Findlay. Victoria Caruso led Mercyhurst, finishing in 40th place overall (37th in scoring) in 23:19. Katie Jarocki completed the 5K course in 23:34 for 54th (48th). Carrie Franze's time of 25:40 put her in 114th place overall (83rd). Amanda Ehrbar was 128th (88th) in 26:22, just one place ahead of Laura McCarthy's 26:35 (89th). Grand Valley State, the 2005 NCAA Division II runner up, won the meet with a total of just 27 points. GVSU had four of the top 10 finishers at the meet, led by individual champion Laura Aderman, who ran a 21:06 to defeat Wayne State's Rachelle Malette by four seconds. With 345 points, the Lakers were tied with rival Gannon, until the Golden Knights sixth runner came in ahead of Mercyhurst's Allison Babcock to break the tie. Findlay finished second with 87 points, Northern Michigan was third with 120, Saginaw Valley was fourth with 156 and Ashland rounded out the top five with team score of 158. Mercyhurst is idle next weekend before competing at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional on November 4 at Wisconsin-Parkside. |
