Fairvew, Pa. - With freshman Cherie Jackson's 24th-place finish leading the way, the Mercyhurst women's cross country team placed 13th at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships Saturday in Fairview, Pa. Along with Gannon, the Lakers played host to the championship that was held at Pleasant Ridge Park just outside of Erie. Jackson was the lone Laker to finish in the top-25. Mercyhurst finished with 316 points, three behind Gannon, which placed 12th. The team title went to Grand Valley State for the seventh-straight year. Grand Valley placed five runners in the top six. Wayne State's Rachelle Malette cruised to a time of 22:00.17 and finished 35 seconds ahead of Kelly Gibbons of Grand Valley. Gibbons' second-place finish started a run of eight-straight Grand Valley runners to cross the finish line.
