Jackson Wins Again, Captures Third-Straight Meet Victory
Oct. 6, 2007
Syracuse, N.Y. - Freshman Cherie Jackson continued the unprecedented start to her Mercyhurst career on Saturday, winning the Le Moyne Invitational, giving her three race wins in as many weeks and helping the Mercyhurst women's cross country team to a second-place finish. Jackson, already with first-place finishes at the Allegheny College Classic and the Race at the Park, turned in a time of 20:14, edging Gannon's Shayna Weird, who finished 21 seconds later in second place. Jackson's time of 20:14 was her third-best time of the season and her best since running a time of 19:12 at the National Catholic Invitational. Not to be outdone was fellow Mercyhurst freshman Christie Turak. Turak earned the best finish of her collegiate career, placing fifth overall with a time of 21:29. All of Mercyhurst's top five runners cracked the top 10. Sophomore Amanda Ehrbar seventh, while freshmen Emily Monahan and Jennifer Mieczkowski placed ninth and 10th respectively. As a team, the Lakers totaled 23 points, finishing just one point behind Gannon. The Lakers return to action on Oct. 13 at the Roberts Wesleyan Invitational. |
