Sept. 29, 2007
Women's Race Results
Erie, Pa. - Freshman Cherie Jackson crossed the finish line in first place for the second-consecutive week and four other Lakers placed in the top 10, helping the Mercyhurst women's cross country team to a dual meet victory over Gannon in the "Race at the Park" on Saturday afternoon. Jackson, the reigning Great Lakers Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Runner of the Week, posted a time of 23:54, besting Gannon's Shayna Weird by 38 seconds. Last week Jackson became the first freshman in program history to win an event and the first Laker named runner of the week. The top finish was Jackson's third top-three finish in four events this year. Fellow freshman Jen Mieczkowski earned a third-place finish with a time of 25:35, and freshman Kristy Turak nabbed sixth with a time of 26:22. Sophomore Amanda Ehrbar finished sixth seconds behind Turak in seventh. Freshman Clara Strasenburg came in 10th place ahead of Gannon's Kristin O'Hern to give Mercyhurst 27 points, one better than Gannon. A total of 25 runners competed in the event, 12 of which were Mercyhurst athletes. With the win, the Lakers avenge the 26-29 loss in 2006 and the 26-33 loss to Gannon in 2005. Mercyhurst travels to the Le Moyne Invitational on Oct. 6. |
