Hayward, Calif. - The Mercyhurst women's water polo team scored seven first period goals and never looked back in a 14-6 win over Cal Maritime at the Cal State East Bay Tournament Thursday.

Eight different players scored for the Lakers as Mercyhurst jumped out to a 7-2 lead after one period and 9-4 lead after two. The Lakers put the match away with a 5-0 third period and cruised to the win.

Christine Somera filled up the stat sheet, finishing with two goals, three assists, three steals and a pair of drawn ejections. Carrie Willison led the team with three goals and added an assist, a steal and a drawn ejection. Christie Haibach, Sam Shehan and Jenna Jefferds each scored twice. Jefferds added three steals to the mix.

Mercyhurst, now 1-2 on the year, continues play in the Cal State East Bay Tournament Friday with contests against Cal State Bakersfield and Cal State San Bernadino.
