Lakers Defeat Wayne State 3-1 to End the Season

Erie, Pa. - The Lakers end the season with a 4-1 win against Wayne State on Saturday afternoon at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center, 30-21, 25-30, 30-26, 30-24. Mercyurst ends the seasn at 7-18 overall and 2-15 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). Wayne State finished 1-21 overall and 1-16 in the GLIAC.
In game one, the Lakers led wire-to-wire with as much as a nine point lead four times throughout the game.
The Wayne State Warriors led for the first time in the second game at 3-4 and held the lead for the rest of the game and the first part of the third game. The Lakers finally tied the game at 7 all and led 19-14. The Warriors then went on a 6-0 run to regain the lead at 19-20. The Lakers regained control and won the third game.
The fourth and final game was taken by the Lakers with ease.
Mercyhurst was led by Jenna Matson with a career high of 25 kills (a .349 hitting percentage), one assist, one ace, 16 digs, one block solo, and one block assist for 27.5 points. Kristin Peterson and Lauren Kubinski had 14 kills a piece. Peterson with eight digs and three block assists for 15.5 points. Kubinski had one ace, nine digs, two block solos, and one block assist for 17.5 points. Julia Butler missed her career high of assists by 2 with 64 assists on the match.
Senior Megan Fargo finished her last match as a Laker with eight kills two assists, five digs, and four block assists for ten points. She finish out her career at Mercyhurst playing in 301 games with 562 kills, 64 assists, 38 aces, 108 digs, and 189 total blocks. She is eighth on the career block assists list (146), tenth with total blocks, ninth with total points (716), and second on total matches playes (90).
Cara Nelson finished her last match as a Laker with a season high of 34 digs. Nelson ends her career playing in 291 games with six kills, 64 service aces, and 1172 digs. In addition, she finishes her career at second place with total career digs and third with digs per game (4.03). |
