Ferris State Sends Laker Volleyball to Fourth-Straight Defeat

Big Rapids, Mich. - Ferris State started strong and held off the Mercyhurst women's volleyball team on Saturday in Big Rapids, Mich., sending the Lakers to their fourth-straight defeat by scores of 30-19, 30-22, 30-28.

Mercyhurst (14-9, 2-8 GLIAC) has now lost four-consecutive matches for the second time this year and has dropped eight of its last 10. Ferris State, meanwhile, improved to 14-7 overall and 6-4 in the GLIAC with the win.

For the second-straight day and just the third time all year, no Laker managed more than nine kills. Junior Jenna Matson paced the team with nine and junior Lauren Kubinski added seven.

However, the team hit -.010 in the match, which was a season low, and sophomore Julie Butler, the team-leader in assists, picked up a season-low 19 assists.

For Ferris State, Candice Marut and Andrea Rich each totaled 19 assists and Lindsay Tye led the team with a match-high 10 kills.

As a team, Ferris State recorded 10 service aces.

Mercyhurst will look to stop its skid on Oct. 12 when it hosts Saginaw Valley State in the Mercyhurst Athletic Center at 7 p.m.
