Lakers Fall to Oilers in 4

Erie, Pa. - Mercyhurst fell short against the University of Findlay in four games, 30-20, 24-30, 21-30, and 24-30. The Lakers are now 6-9 overall and 1-6 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). The Oilers are now 10-4 overall and 3-3 in the GLIAC.
The Lakers dominated game one with a score of 30-20 and led wire-to-wire with a 12 point lead at 18-6. In game two, the Oilers and the Lakers were tied four times until the score was 6-6; the Oilers then took the lead and never gave it up to the end of the game 30-24. The Oilers took game three and had a ten point lead at 23-13 and finished out at 30-21. In game four, the Lakers and the Oilers were neck and neck until 14-14, then the Oilers took over again til the end of the game and match 30-24.
Jenna Matson led the Lakers with 19 kills, 15 digs, one block solo, and one block assist. Megan Fargo had 11 kills, one assist, and one block solo. Leading the team in four solo blocks was Lauren Kubinski, who also hadnine kills and two digs. Julia Butler had 46 assists on the night.
The Oilers were led by Erin Puthoff with 19 kills, ten digs, and one block assist. Jackie Kahlig had 12 kills, two block solos, and three block assists. Kelly Byrnes had 40 assists for the Oilers.
The Lakers look to get back in the win column tomorrow Saturday, September 23rd at 12pm in the Mercyhurst Athletic Center against Ashland. |
