Lakers Drop Two at Mercyhurst Invitational

ERIE, Pa. - Mercyhurst (5-3) finished up play at the Mercyhurst Invitational with a pair of losses to Saginaw Valley State and Drury. The Lakers lost in three to the Cardinals and dropped a 3-1 count against Drury.

The Lakers hit just .103 and fell to Saginaw Valley, 30-27, 30-20, 30-18.

Jenna Matson led Mercyhurst with 9.5 points and nine kills. Terri Rhodes and Julia Butler split time setting. Rhodes had 13 assists, Butler checked in with eight. Cara Nelson had 18 digs.

Drury 3, Mercyhurst 1
The Lakers dropped their third-straight, falling to Drury 30-19, 30-24, 29-31, 30-24.

Jenna Matson led the team with 13 kills and 17 points. Her six blocks tied Lauren Kubinski for the team-high in the match. Kubinski added 11 kills for 14.5 points. Christine Nisbet had eight kills in 14 attempts and four blocks. Kristin Peterson matched her with 12 points from her 12 kills. Megan Fargo had nine kills without an error in 19 attacks.

Julia Butler and Terri Rhodes split time at setter. Butler dished out 37 assists in four games, with Rhodes picking up 11 in one game of action. Cara Nelson led the Lakers with 22 digs. Julie McConaughy had 15 digs to go along with three aces. Matson added a dozen digs.

Mercyhurst will look to get back in the win column on September 5 with a match at rival Gannon at 7:00 PM.
