Four Laker Tennis Players Honored By GLIAC

Oct. 30, 2007

Bay City, Mich. - The Mercyhurst College women's tennis team had four players named to one of the All-GLIAC Women's Tennis Teams released this week. Freshman Kim Ezzo was named first-team all-conference, while senior Jennifer Daly and junior Jaclyn McLean were named second-team. Sophomore Meghan Raynor received honorable mention recognition.

Ezzo was one of the most impressive freshmen in the conference this year, registering an 8-1 record at No. 2 singles and adding two more wins at the GLIAC Championship for a 10-1 record against conference opponents. In doubles play, Ezzo paired up with Daly at the No. 1 spot for a 6-3 conference record and added a 2-1 mark at the GLIAC Championship. She had a team-best 26-9 combined overall record in singles and doubles.

Daly was the stabilizing influence at the top of the lineup this year. Along with her stellar doubles play, she matched up against the opponent's top player at No. 1 singles all year. Although she was just 1-7 in conference play at that spot, she had an overall record of 6-11 in singles play.

McLean played No. 3 singles for the Lakers and was 4-4 in conference play at that spot. She paired up with Raynor at No. 2 doubles to go 7-2 and added a 2-1 mark in the GLIAC Championship.

Along with Raynor's 7-2 doubles mark, she was also 7-2 at No. 4 singles. Her combined overall record of 23-11 in singles and doubles was the second best on the team in 2007.

Mercyhurst finished the season with a record of 11-6 overall and placed fourth in the GLIAC during the regular season. The squad went 2-1 at the GLIAC Tennis Championship and placed fifth in the postseason tournament.
