Clarion Edges Laker Netters
April 22, 2008 Clarion, Pa. - The Mercyhurst women's tennis team jumped out to a 2-1 lead after doubles play but Clarion won four of six singles matches to defeat the Lakers 5-4 Tuesday in non-conference action. Jennifer Daly and Kim Ezzo battled to a 9-8 (10-8) victory at No. 1 doubles. Jaclyn McLean and Meghan Raynor did the same in a 9-7 win at No. 2 doubles that put Mercyhurst in the driver's seat by winning two of the three doubles matches. But once singles play began, Clarion took over. The Golden Eagles won identical 6-3, 6-4 matches at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, but Jaclyn McLean beat Devin Rombach 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3. Natalie Iovino also picked up a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 6, but Clarion won both of the two tightest singles matches to clinch the win. At No. 4 singles, Raynor battled for two sets before falling 6-4, 6-4, while the No. 5 singles match went to three sets. Mercyhurst's Kelton Macke won the opening set 6-4 but Clarion's Sharayah Campbell came back with 6-2, 6-0 victories in the final two sets. Clarion improves to 9-8 on the season with the win and Mercyhurst falls to 13-9. Clarion 5, Mercyhurst 4
