Feret, Bailey Named Louisville Slugger/NFCA First Team All-Region
May 15, 2007 Erie, Pa. - Mercyhurst seniors Jen Feret and Maureen Bailey were named Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-Great Lakes Region by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. Feret was designated as the utility player on the 13 person first-team and Bailey was named an outfielder on the second team. Feret ranks sixth in all of NCAA Division II in homers per game and also ranks among the country's leaders in slugging percentage and RBI. Although players could only be selected to the team as a field player of a pitcher, Feret was also Mercyhurst's top pitcher this year and ranks among the Division II leaders in ERA and strikeouts. She hit .345 on the season, breaking the school record with 16 homers. She also drove in 41 runs, had 23 extra-base hits and slugged .746. In the circle, she rang up a record of 12-11 with a 1.47 ERA, striking out 175 batters in 161.2 innings. Bailey hit a team-high .385 with 18 runs scored. She stole five bases and played a strong defensive game in the outfield. Mercyhurst completed its season with a record of 23-23 overall and 11-9 in the GLIAC. The 23 wins represent a new benchmark for victories in a season, breaking the previous record of 20. As well, the Lakers were picked to finish tied for ninth in the GLIAC in the Preseason Coaches Poll, but exceeded expectations, finishing in a three-way tie for fifth and qualifying for the GLIAC Tournament. |
