Jen Feret Named Second Team Academic All-Region

May 10, 2007

Erie, Pa. - Mercyhurst College softball player Jen Feret was named ESPN The Magazine Second Team Academic All-District Thursday. In order to be nominated, a player must have at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average.

An elementary education major, Feret broke the Mercyhurst school record for home runs by hitting 16 this year. She also drove in 41 runs and hit .345. As a pitcher, Feret won 12 games in the circle, striking out 175 batters in 161.2 innings pitched with a 1.47 ERA.

She ranks third in all of NCAA Division II in homers per game and also ranks among the country's leaders in slugging percentage, RBI, ERA and strikeouts.

Mercyhurst completed its season with a record of 23-23 overall and 11-9 in the GLIAC. The 23 wins represent a new benchmark for victories in a season, breaking the previous record of 20. As well, the Lakers were picked to finish tied for ninth in the GLIAC in the Preseason Coaches Poll, but exceeded expectations, finishing in a three-way tie for fifth and qualifying for the GLIAC Tournament.
