Jen Feret Named Daktronics First Team All-Region

May 9, 2007

Evansville, Ind. - Mercyhurst senior Jen Feret was named to the inaugural Daktronics All-Great Lakes Region First Team at first base after compiling a school-record 16 homeruns and driving home 41 runs on the year.

Feret ranks third in all of NCAA Division II in homers per game and also ranks among the country's leaders in slugging percentage and RBI. Although players could only be selected to the team as a field player of a pitcher, Feret was also Mercyhurst's top pitcher this year and ranks among the Division II leaders in ERA and strikeouts.

The Daktronics All-Region First Team consists of one player at each position, as well as a utility player, three outfielders and a designated player. Three pitchers were also selected to the team. The team is voted on by the region's Sports Information Directors and all members of the first team move onto the ballot for All-American voting.

Gannon's Jaclyn Corroto was named the Region Player of the Year, while Wayne State's Molly Yetman was selected as the Pitcher of the Year.

Mercyhurst completed its season with a record of 23-23 overall and 11-9 in the GLIAC. The 23 wins represent a new benchmark for victories in a season, breaking the previous record of 20. As well, the Lakers were picked to finish tied for ninth in the GLIAC in the Preseason Coaches Poll, but exceeded expectations, finishing in a three-way tie for fifth and qualifying for the GLIAC Tournament.
