May 4, 2007

Bay City, Mich. - Mercyhurst College softball players Jen Feret and Maureen Bailey were named Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Association (GLIAC) First Team All-Conference Friday at the GLIAC Softball Tournament, while Melissa Rizzo was named Second Team. Anne Styn and Megan Houston were named honorable mention.

Feret was named to the first team as the utility player. She has 16 homeruns, ranking third in NCAA Division II in homers/game. She is hitting .363 with 40 RBI and a .785 slugging percentage. As a pitcher, Feret has earned half of the team's 22 wins this year, going 11-10 with a 1.64 ERA. She has 160 strikeouts in 145 innings pitched.

Bailey is hitting .395 this year, starting 42 of the team's 44 games. She has struck out just four times in 114 at-bats and has not made an error, playing in the outfield.

Rizzo has added power to the Laker lineup, belting five homers and driving in 23 runs this year. She is hitting .287 and, as the team's centerfielder, has not made an error on the season.

Styn, a second baseman, has started all 44 games for the Lakers and is hitting .239 on the year, driving in 17 runs. Houston is hitting .271 with four homers and 19 RBI, while scoring 25 runs, second on the team.

Mercyhurst went 22-21 during the regular season, breaking the school record for wins, which stood at 20 entering the season. Picked to tie for ninth place in the GLIAC standings in the preseason coaches' poll, the Lakers actually tied for fifth during the season, qualifying for the eight-team GLIAC Tournament.
