Lakers Now Ranked No. 8 In Region
April 26, 2007 Indianapolis, Ind. - The Mercyhurst softball team slipped one spot in the Great Lakes Region rankings this week, dropping to No. 8. The top eight teams in the region will be invited to the NCAA Playoffs. Mercyhurst climbed into the regional rankings a week ago for the first time this year, hitting the No. 7 spot. After splitting six games on the week, the Lakers dropped one spot. Mercyhurst split a doubleheader with Slippery Rock, a team ranked No. 6 in the Mid-Atlantic Region and lost both games of a doubleheader to Ashland, ranked No. 6 in the Great Lakes Region. Mercyhurst also swept unranked Findlay. At 20-17 on the season, Mercyhurst has now equaled the most wins in a season in program history. The Lakers have not finished above .500 since 1991 and have a 9-5 GLIAC record, easily surpassing last year's 5-15 mark. Mercyhurst has a big upcoming weekend with a pair of conference doubleheaders. The Lakers host Ferris State, ranked fifth in the region, Friday and then host Grand Valley State, ranked second in the region, Saturday. Great Lakes Region Rankings 1 - Lewis |
