Lakers Fell to Ferris State Twice in Doubleheader

Erie, Pa. - Mercyhurst fell to Ferris State in its doubleheader, 2-0 and 10-1, which was played at the Gannon University field due to inclement weather. The Lakers are now 20-19 overall and 9-7 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). Ferris State improved to 26-11 overall and 12-4 in the GLIAC.

Game One

Jen Feret only allowed three hits in the game while striking out ten batters. She did not allow an earned run in seven innings.

The Laker defense fell apart in the bottom of the sixth by committing two errors that would all two runs to score for Ferris State to win.

Game Two

Ferris State struck big in the bottom of the first with a grand slam by Katie Kraai which proved to be enough to take the Lakers in game two.

The Lakers scored their only run in the top of the second inning. Kim Griffin reached on an error by the second baseman. Elizabeth Maier pinchran for Griffin who eventually scored on a single by Maureen Bailey.

Ferris State added insurance runs in the bottom of the third to increase its lead to 10-1.

Griffin took the loss for the Lakers by allowing five hits, five earned runs, and walking one batter in two innings. Lisa Nazaranko pitched two innings and allowed three hits, three earned runs, one walk, and struck out three.

The Lakers will face Grand Valley on Saturday, April 28th at 12:00 pm at the Mercyhurst Softball Field.
