Lakers Take Two From Findlay

Box Score

Findlay, Ohio - Melissa Rizzo led the Lakers with 4-of-8 hitting in two wins over the University of Findlay, 3-2 and 9-1. She ripped two doubles in game two. The Lakers are now 20-17 overall and 9-5 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). Findlay is now 7-36 overall and 2-14 in the GLIAC.

Game One

The Lakers struck in the second inning with two runs. Kim Griffin reached base with a hit-by-pitch and was scored off a single to right center by Danielle Zubek. Zubek was later scored on an error that occured when Anne Styn put the ball into play.

Findlay answer back in the bottom of the second off a couple of singles strung together by Hilvers and Rolston and a few pass balls.

With strong pitching from both sides, the game was forced into extra innings. It wasn't until the nineth inning when the Lakers struck to win the game 3-2. Houston singled to right center and was knocked around by a double to left center by Rizzo.

Jen Feret (10-7) earned the win by only allowing four hits, two runs, and one walk in nine innings of play. She struck out five.

Game Two

The Lakers struck in the first inning with 6 runs. To start the inning, Maureen Bailey singled to center field and advanced to second on a passed ball. Megan Houston walked to put runners on first and second. Feret doubled down the left field line to score Bailey and move Houston to third. Rizzo doubled to left center to score Houston and Feret. Griffin walked to place the runners on first and second. Anna Glomb reached on a fielder's choice which advanced Griffin to second and Rizzo was out on the play at third. Zubek doubled to right center to score Griffin and Glomb. Bailey singled for the second time in the inning to score Zubek scored.

Findlay scored its only run in the fifth inning off a Bischoff triple to center field who was brought home on a single to second base by Webb.

The Lakers put the game away in the bottom of the fifth inning by scoring three runs and going up 9-1. Feret walked to begin the inning. Rizzo doubled for the third time on the day to right field where Feret advanced to third. Griffin singled to right center to score Feret and Rizzo. Elizabeth Maier pinch ran for Griffin to later score on a single to right center by Anne Styn.

Kim Griffin (5-6) allowed six hits in five innings with one earned run. She only walked one and struck out two.

Mercyhurst will face Ferris State and Grand Valley State at home next Saturday and Sunday, April 28th and 29th. Both games are slated to start at 1:00 p.m.
