Lakers Split Two With Slippery Rock University

Slippery Rock, Pa. - Maureen Bailey led the Lakers against Slippery Rock with 4-for-6 hitting and two runs scored in their doubleheader. The Lakers are now 18-15 on the year and Slippery Rock is 20-15. Game One The Rock struck first in game one with a couple of unearned runs in the bottom of the first inning. Vincent singled to begin the inning and advanced to second on a passed ball. She made it to third off of a double by McHenry. Both Vincent and McHenry scored on an error by the second baseman when Kortz put the ball into play. In the top of the second Anna Glomb hit her first career homerun to cut the Lakers deficit in half, 2-1. In the third, the Lakers took the lead, 3-2. Back-to-back singles by Megan Houston and Jen Feret put runners on first and second. Kim Griffin singled in Houston and Glomb singled in Feret. Slippery Rock then scored a pair of runs in the fourth inning to take the lead back 4-3 and then a pair in the sixth for insurance. Feret took the loss in game one but only allowed five hits and four earned runs. She struck out six batters. Game Two Mercyhurst scored a pair of runs in the first inning off of a double by Griffin which scored Bailey and Melissa Rizzo who reached on a single and a fielder's choice, respectively. The Rock scored in the first off of an error by the third baseman. Then scored again in the third to tie the game off a solo homerun by Rhoades. The Lakers did not strike again until the top of the fifth inning with four runs. Erin Ratajczak singled to start the inning then stole second. Bailey singled to move Ratajczak to third. Houston hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Ratajczak. Feret then singled to advance Bailey to second. Back-to-back doubles by Rizzo and Griffin scored Bailey, Feret and Rizzo. Slippery Rock scored its last run of the game in the sixth inning off of a couple of singles. Griffin took the win for the Lakers in game two by scattering six hits throughout seven innings and only allowing two earned runs and two walks while striking out four batters. The Lakers hit the road this weekend to face Ashland on Saturday, April 21st and Findlay on Sunday, April 22nd. |
