Erie, Pa. - Mercyhurst junior forward Sarah Powell was named Daktronics All-Great Lakes Region First Team Tuesday. Powell leads the team with 14 goals and 36 points.

The team was voted on by sports information directors of the region, which is comprised of schools from the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (GLIAC), the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) and the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC). All members of the first team are placed on the national ballot for All-America consideration.

Powell has started all 20 games this year and has become the program's all-time leader with 34 career assists. She ranks fifth all-time with 49 career goals and 132 career points. She has led the team to the NCAA Playoffs for the second consecutive season, posting a 14-4-2 record in 2007. In her three years at Mercyhurst, the Lakers have a combined record of 45-13-2.

Powell has also been named first team all-conference by the GLIAC this year and was named GLIAC Player of the Week after posting three goals and two assists in wins over Findlay and Ashland. She was named Daktronics All-Great Lakes Region First Team in 2006 as well.

Mercyhurst was selected to the NCAA Playoffs as the No. 5 seed in the Great Lakes Region and will play No. 4 seed Quincy in the opening round Friday at 1:00 p.m. in Allendale, Mich. The Lakers placed second in the GLIAC during the regular season and ended as the tournament runner-up.
