MIDLAND, Mich. - Mercyhurst College sophomore Sara Powell was named the Player of the Week by the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) after leading the Lakers to a pair of wins during the week ending October 1.

A forward, Powell played a part in all three of Mercyhurst's goals in its 3-0 upset victory over No. 4 Grand Valley State on Friday. Powell assisted on the game-winning goal in the first half and scored both goals in the second half as Mercyhurst pulled away down the stretch, scoring three goals against a defense that had allowed only a pair of scores in nine games all year.

Powell also added an assist in the 2-0 win over Ferris State on Saturday.

She is tied for first in the GLIAC in assists with eight, and is tied third in the GLIAC in goals with 11 and points with 30. Powell also rates fourth in the league in points per match with 2.50.

Mercyhurst has won 11 in a row and is 11-1 overall and the only undefeated team in GLIAC play with mark of 4-0. The Lakers travel to West Virginia this weekend for a 7:00 PM game at West Virginia Wesleyan on October 6 and a 1:00 PM tilt at Charleston on October 8.
