Mercyhurst Jumps Into National Rankings
Sept. 12, 2006 ERIE, Pa. - The Mercyhurst College women's soccer team is ranked No. 25 in NCAA Division II in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll released September 12. Mercyhurst jumps into the rankings this week after winning five games in a row following a season opening loss to Quincy (Ill.) - the No. 11 team in this week's rankings. The Lakers have shut out four of the five opponents in their current five match win streak, including the past three. Mercyhurst has not allowed a goal in its past 279:50, while scoring nine goals of its own. The Lakers are also ranked third in the Great Lakes Region by the NSCAA, trailing only Quincy and top ranked Grand Valley State in the region. GVSU is the only other Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference team in the national rankings, checking in at No. 4. Nebraska-Omaha is the top ranked team in the national poll with a perfect 6-0 record. Metro State (Colo.), Carson-Newman, Grand Valley and Seattle Pacific round out the top five respectively. Mercyhurst is 5-1 on the season and 1-0 in the GLIAC. The Lakers get a chance to improve on their standing immediately, with a game against 22nd-ranked Indiana (Pa.) at 4:00 PM on September 12 in Erie, Pennsylvania. NCSCAA National Rankings |
