Lakers Ranked No. 22 In First Women's Soccer Poll

Aug. 29, 2007

Erie, Pa. - The Mercyhurst women's soccer team moved into the NSCAA/adidas Top 25 poll, reaching No. 22 in the first regular season poll. The Lakers were one of six teams receiving votes in the preseason poll.

Mercyhurst defeated then-No. 16 Indianapolis 2-1 in the season opener Friday before losing to then-No. 22 Quincy 3-2 in overtime Sunday. The Lakers bounced back Tuesday evening with a 3-0 win over Tiffin. Quincy climbed to No. 14 in the first poll, while Indianapolis dropped out of the Top 25.

The Lakers are ranked third in the Great Lakes Region, behind Grand Valley State and Quincy. Grand Valley State is No. 2 in the national poll.

Metropolitan State remained No. 1 overall, while West Chester was No. 3, followed by Tampa and UC-San Diego.

Mercyhurst will be back in action Sunday when the Lakers travel to Rockhurst for an 11:30 a.m. start. Mercyhurst will finally open at home Saturday, Sept. 8 against Charleston at 3:00 p.m.
