Lakers Stunned By Findlay; Fall Into Tie For First
Oct. 22, 2006
Findlay, Ohio - The Mercyhurst women's soccer team lost in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play for the first time in nine contests, dropping a 2-1 decision to Findlay Sunday. Despite outshooting the Oilers 31-10, No. 16 Mercyhurst was unable to make a second half Lisa Casement goal hold up. After a scoreless first half, Casement put the Lakers on top 12 minutes into the second half after an initial shot was blocked. She gathered the rebound and put home the goal to give Mercyhurst a 1-0 lead. But Findlay bounced back in a hurry, scoring nine minutes later to tie the game up. The Oilers then posted the game winner with just 10 minutes remaining. Mercyhurst, now 15-3 overall and 6-1 in the GLIAC, could have clinched a share of the conference championship with a victory but must now get a victory at rival Gannon Saturday at 7 p.m. to assure itself of a co-conference title. |
