Lakers Storm by Findlay 5-0

Erie, Pa. - The Mercyhurst Lakers women's soccer team trounced the Findlay Oilers 5-0 on Friday with four different people contributing goals. The Lakers improve to 10-3-1 this season and 4-2-0 in the GLIAC. The Findlay Oilers fall to 7-5-0 and 2-1-0.

Junior Sarah Powell led the offensive charge on Friday with two goals and one assist. Less than three minutes into the game, Powell assisted on a goal from senior midfielder Adrienne Sluga. Sluga current leads the Lakers with four game winning goals this year. For the remainder of the first half both teams would battle for possession of the ball and leave the score 1-0 at halftime in favor of the Lakers.

In the second half Mercyhurst came out firing on all cylinders as junior Christine Rehnert blew by the Oilers defense line and slipped the Lakers' insurance goal past Oilers goalkeeper Ashley Wheaton just 33 seconds into the half.

After Rehnert's goal, the Lakers opened the flood gates and in less than four minutes tallied the final three goals. Powell added her first goal of the game off an assist from freshman Jamie Schroter. One minute later, sophomore Taylor Hilinski joined in and finished off a pass from senior midfielder Jacque Sluga. The last goal came when Adrienne Sluga added an assist to her earlier goal when she threaded a pass to Powell, who finished her second goal of the match.

Junior goalkeeper Rebecca Heintzman and her defense held the Oilers to three shots on goals and 11 total opportunities. The Lakers and the Oilers broke even at three a piece for corner kicks.

The Lakers return to MC Soccer Field on Sunday when they continue conference play against the Ashland Eagles. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
