No. 23 Lakers Suffer 4-0 Loss to No. 1 Grand Valley

Allendale, Mich. - The No. 23 Mercyhurst Lakers women's soccer team suffered its first GLIAC loss by a margain of 4-0 to No. 1 Grand Valley State on Friday. Grand Valley State is 11-0-0 this season and 3-0 in the GLIAC. Mercyhurst is 9-2-1 overall and 3-1 in the conference.

Reigning Offensive GLIAC Player of the Year Katy Tafler scored all four goals for Grand Valley, bringing her season total to 22. She holds the single season record for goals scored at Grand Valley with 33 last season. Tafler unleashed three goals in the first half, with her remaining goal coming off of a penalty kick in the 74th minute.

Grand Valley outshot Mercyhurst 15-8 and placed 10 shots on goal to Mercyhurst's two. In cornerkicks, Grand Valley held a 10-2 advantage as well.

Junior goalkeeper Rebecca Heintzman recorded five saves in the contest.

The Mercyhurst Lakers look to bounce back on Sunday when they travel to play GLIAC opponent Ferris State. Game time is set for 12 p.m.
