Lakers Extend Nine Game Win Streak With 1-0 Victory Over Northern Michigan

Erie, Pa. - The Mercyhurst Lakers women's soccer team continued their success by defeating Northern Michigan 1-0 on Sunday. The Lakers have a nine game unbeaten streak and an overall record of 9-1-1, 3-0 in the GLIAC. Northern Michigan Wildcats are currently 6-3-2 overall and 2-2-2 in the GLIAC.

Seniors Adrienne Sluga and Jacque Sluga would team up in the first half to score the one and only goal for the Lakers. Jacque Sluga placed a perfect ball behind the Wildcats defense and Adrienne Sluga finished the opportunity. Adrienne Sluga now has five goals on the year with five assists and three game winning goals. Jacque Sluga has three goals and five assists.

Mercyhurst earned 13 shots to the Wildcats three. Junior Rebecca Heintzman gained another shutout this season, bringing her season total to seven so far. Heintzman and her defensive unit only allowed one shot on goal all game against Northern Michigan. Mercyhurst also held a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks.

The Lakers will travel to No. 1 Grand Valley State on Friday. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
