Mercyhurst Explodes in Home Opener by Defeating Charleston 4-0

Erie, P.a. - Freshman Jamie Schroter assisted on three goals as the Mercyhurst women's soccer team defeated the Charleston Golden Eagles 4-0 on Saturday. Mercyhurst improves to 3-1-1 on the year, while Charleston suffers its second defeat of the week and falls to 1-3.

Four different Mercyhurst players contributed to the goal scoring barrage with sophomore Braedyn Ordway and junior Christine Rehnart scoring their first goals of the season. Rehnart also added an assist on the day.

Senior Jacque Sluga added her second goal of the season, while junior Sarah Powell continued her offensive dominance by posting one goal, giving her six on the season. Powell has now scored in seven-straight games dating back to Oct. 28, 2006.

The Mercyhurst offense exploded today with 29 shots and five corners. Chaleston's gaolkeeper, sophomore Whitney Sharp, made a valaint attempt to help her team with 14 saves.

Junior goalkeeper Rebecca Heintzman ended the day with four saves for Mercyhurst,and her defense only allowed one corner.

Mercyhurst returns to action at home on Sunday when it faces undefeated W.Va. Wesleyan at 2 p.m.
