Mercyhurst Fights Rockhurst to 1-1 Tie in Double Overtime
Sept. 2, 2007
Kansas City, Mo. - Junior Sarah Powell scored her fifth goal in four games on Sunday to help the Lakers hold on to a 1-1 tie through double overtime against a strong Rockhurst squad. Mercyhurst now posts a 2-1-1 record and Rockhurst, now 3-0-1, holds on to its undefeated streak. Six minutes into the match, Powell struck a 15-yarder from the left side off a pass from senior midfielder Jacque Sluga that found the back of the net. Sluga now has two points on the year, one goal and one assist. Rockhurst would not go quietly though and picked up a goal from freshman Danielle Boyce eight minutes into the second half. Boyce was assisted by sophomore Lindsay Miller. The goal was Boyce's second tally on the year. Mercyhurst outshot the Hawks 9-3 in the second half and 13-9 on the game. Fate was not on the Lakers side in the second half as Powell hit the crossbar twice off of free kicks. Rockhurst held the advantage in cornerkicks (7-2) and saves (5-2). Mercyhurst goalkeeper Rebecca Heintzman ended with two saves on the day. The Lakers return to action for their first home contest against Charleston on Saturday. Game time is set at 3:00 p.m. |
