Hilinski and Heintzman Lead Lakers to Win at Tiffin

Tiffin, Ohio - Sophomore Taylor Hilinski scored her first points of the season Tuesday by placing two goals on the board for the Mercyhurst Laker women's soccer team as it defeated Tiffin University 3-0 on the road. Junior Sarah Powell also added her fourth goal in three games. Senior mildfielder Adrienne Sluga finished the day with two assists. Freshman Jamie Schroter also secured an assist, bringing her season total to two on the year. Hilinski came off the bench and scored her first goal off Sluga's assist shortly into the second half, giving the Lakers a 1-0 lead. She then followed six minutes later with another goal off an assist from Schroter. Powell sealed Tiffin's fate with an assisted goal from Sluga in the last minute of play. Laker goalkeeper Rebecca Heintzman finished the day with three saves and earned her first shutout of the season. The Mercyhurst defense held Tiffin to four shots the entire game and only one corner. The Laker offense bombarded the Tiffin defense with 11 shots and three corners. Tiffin goalkeepers Abby Grieser and Emily Demorest combined for four saves and three goals against. Mercyhurst improves to 2-1 on the season, bouncing back from a 3-2 overtime loss against Quincy, while Tiffin falls to 1-2. The Lakers return to action on Sunday when they travel to Rockhurst College to play a double header with the Mercyhurst men's team. Game time is set for 11:30 a.m. |
