Rochester, N.Y. - The Mercyhurst women's varsity eight rowing team placed 20th out of 35 teams at the Head of the Genesee Invitational Regatta Sunday in Rochester, N.Y. The crew was also ninth out of 24 collegiate teams.

The event was comprised of a three-mile time trial in the morning, followed by a 1500 meter sprint in the afternoon. The 1500-meter time was multiplied by three and added to the morning time trial time for the final result.

Mercyhurst rowed a 19:24.73 in the morning time trial and then posted a 5:40.21 in the afternoon for a combined time of 36:25.36. Cornell won the event with a time of 33:13.37 and the top collegiate team was Williams with a 34:20.57. Ithaca was second among collegiate teams and Rochester was third.

Mercyhurst will compete next at the Head of the Speakmon Regatta in Columbus, Ohio on Oct. 27 at 8 a.m.
