FINDLEY LAKE, N.Y. - Mercyhurst College won the novice eight as the Lakers hosted Eastern Michigan at Findley Lake, New York. Mercyhurst fell in the two varsity races, but in very close finishes.

The novice eight trailed by a length for most of the race, but came on strong over the final 500 to finish with a 7:08.93. The Eagles took second in 7:33.87.

In the varsity eight, Mercyhurst trailed by a length before closing the gap at the end. The Lakers nearly caught the Eagles with a 6:49.87, but Eastern Michigan edged the home team with a 6:47.97.

Mercyhurst led for most of the varsity four competition, but the Eastern Michigan 'A' edged out both Mercyhurst and the Eagles 'B' entry. The 'A' boat finished with a 7:47.07. Eastern Michigan's 'B' boat crossed the finish line in 7:48.10, just edging the Lakers, who finished in 7:48.82.

The Lakers also picked up a win in the spares four with a 7:49.85. EMU rowed an 8:41.76.

The sunny, calm conditions made for excellent racing on the lake.

Mercyhurst hosts both Dowling and Franklin Pierce at Findley Lake on April 28 for the East Regional Invitational.
