Haggerty Named Womenslacrosse.com First Team All-American

May 28, 2008

Erie, Pa. - The Mercyhurst College women's lacrosse team had three players honored by www.womenslacrosse.com. Junior Breanna Haggerty was named NCAA Division II First Team All-America and freshmen Kimberly Masterton and Maggie Yackel were named to the All-Rookie Team.

Haggerty tied for the NCAA Division II goals per game title, averaging 5.0 per contest and finishing with 75 on the year. That average is the third highest in NCAA Division II history. She set the Mercyhurst program record for goals in a season and points in a season with 98 and is already the career leader in goals (170) and points (242). Haggerty has scored at least three goals in 23 consecutive games and has at least one goal in 40 straight games dating back to early in her freshman year. She was named NCAA Division II/Nike Player of the Week after scoring nine goals and adding two assists in an 18-3 win over then-No. 9 Queens.

Masterton played in all 15 games for the Lakers as a freshman, starting the final 12 as a midfielder. She ranked third on the team with 24 goals and 19 assists, causing a team-high 21 turnovers. She also recorded 25 ground balls and 24 draw controls.

Yackel also played in all 15 games, starting 11 times in her freshman campaign. She led the Lakers with 40 ground balls and added 21 caused turnovers on the season, including a season-high six against Bloomsburg.

Mercyhurst boasted its best season in program history in 2008, going 12-3. The Lakers won a program-best nine consecutive games at one point during the season.
