Gannon Snaps Lakers' Nine Game Win Streak

Erie, Pa. - The No. 7 Mercyhurst women's lacrosse team built a five-goal halftime lead over rival No. 8 Gannon but the Golden Knights scored 10 second half goals to upend the Lakers 13-11 in the final game of the season for both teams. The loss snapped Mercyhurst's nine-game winning streak.

Breanna Haggerty scored four goals in a 14 minute stretch of the first half as Mercyhurst built a 6-1 lead. Alicia Guzzo and Jessie Horeth added goals in the final 4:13 of the period as the Lakers held an 8-3 halftime lead.

Gannon came out of the locker room as a much stronger team and posted four goals in the first nine minutes to cut the deficit to one. Horeth scored her second goal of the contest as Mercyhurst took a 9-7 lead but the Golden Knights rattled off four more in a row to take an 11-9 lead.

With less than nine minutes to go, Haggerty took control and scored twice in under two minutes to tie the game at 11-11 with 6:47 to play. But Gannon got goals from Sarah Belen and Taryn Millerd down the stretch and held off the Lakers' charge to get the win.

Haggerty finished the game with six goals and two assists for 75 on the season. The All-American candidate finishes the season tied for first in the country with 5.00 goals per game. Horeth added two goals and an assist for the Lakers and Maggie Yackel picked up four ground balls and had a team-best three caused turnovers.

Gannon concludes the season with a record of 11-4 and Mercyhurst finishes 12-3, the best season in program history.
