Lakers Fall to #1 C.W. Post

Erie, Pa. - Mercyhurst was unable to overcome the No. 1 C.W. Post Pioneers in the second half after staying close in the first half at Tullio Field on Tuesday. C.W. Post outscored the Lakers 10-2 in the second half to beat Mercyhurst 20-9.

The Lakers' Kristen Toomey scored the first two goals of the game but the Pioneers were quick to answer back. The first half was neck-and-neck until the last five minutes when the Pioneers had two unanswered goals by Katie Hogan and Staci Passafiume to give CW Post a 10-7 lead at the break. Passafiume had the game-winning goal at 0:48. C.W. Post outshot the Lakers 21-8 in the first half.

In the second half, the Pioneers came out on fire with four straight goals in the first seven minutes of the half. Angela Schumerth broke the streak with a goal assisted by Kate Smith at 22:02.

Toomey posted two goals and one assist for the Lakers. Breanna Haggerty was 3-of-4 shooting for three goals. Jessica Raniero and Darci Doran each posted three groundballs. Doran also led with three draw controls and two caused turnovers.

Raniero had ten saves and allowed 18 goals in 51:20 of play. Megan Foley had three saves and allowed two goals in 8:40.

The Lakers were outshot in the game 42-23. Mercyhurst converted 2-of-4 free-position shots into goals while the Pioneers only converted 1-of-5.

Mercyhurst fell to 3-4 on the year while C.W. Post improved to 7-0. The Lakers will face Shippensburg on Saturday April 14th at Shippensburg at 11:00 a.m.
