Haggerty Scores Five as Lakers Win, 10-8

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - Mercyhurst scored seven times in the second half to erase a 5-3 halftime deficit and pick up a 10-8 road win over Bloomsburg. Breanna Haggerty scored a game-high five goals in the contest.

The Lakers came out flat in the first half, falling behind 5-3 after being outshot 21-5 n the first 30 minutes. Bloomsburg scored three times in the first seven minutes to give the Huskies a 3-0 advantage.

Haggerty's first two goals and one from Courtney Olevnik tied the game at 19:01. Bloomsburg scored the final two goals of the half to take the 5-3 halftime lead.

Haggerty added her third score less than two minutes into the second half as the two teams traded goals for the first 15 minutes of the second half. Mercyhurst (3-2) scored three consecutive goals, however, to erase a 7-5 deficit and take the lead. Angela Schumerth started the run at 46:49, Kristen Toomey tied the contest at 51:27, and Haggerty gave the Lakers the lead less than a minute later.

A Megan Taylor goal tied the game at 58:06, but Haggerty notched the game-winner 28 seconds later and Kate Smith added an insurance goal with less than 30 seconds remaining in the contest.

Jessica Raniero picked up the win in her first career start in net. The freshman registered nine saves.

In addition to her five goals, Haggerty added a pair of assists for seven points. She also became just the ninth Laker to top the 100 career point mark and finished the game with 103.

Toomey scored twice and had an assist. Olevnik scored once and assisted on another goal.

Taylor led the Huskies with four goals. Bridget Maenner had 11 saves.

The Lakers open their home slate with an 11:00 a.m. contest against No. 2 Adelphi on April 1.
