Box Score

Greensburg, Pa. - The Mercyhurst women's lacrosse team scored at least 20 goals for the second time this season, defeating Seton Hill 23-9 Wednesday on the road. Ten different players scored at least one goal for the eighth-ranked team in Division II.

Mercyhurst outshot Seton Hill 53-22 in the contest, including 34-10 in the first half, as the Lakers built an 11-3 halftime lead and were up by as many as 18 goals at 23-5 in the second half.

All-American candidate Breanna Haggerty scored the first of her five goals just 40 seconds into the contest and the Lakers never looked back. Courtney Olevnik, Katy Miller and Jessie Horeth followed with goals that made it 4-0 seven minutes into the game.

Seton Hill rallied with back-to-back goals but the Lakers reeled off seven in a row to put the game out of reach. Kristen Toomey and Haggerty each had two goals during the deciding run and Horeth assisted on a pair of the goals.

Maeve McGoff played the first half in goal, making five saves to get the win. Jessica Raniero played the second half, adding five saves of her own.

Offensively, Haggerty ended with seven points, adding two assists to her game-high five goals. Horeth had two goals and three assists, her second consecutive game with at least five points. Kimberly Masterton and Olevnik each had three goals and an assist and Page Christensen came off the bench for two goals and two assists. Toomey added three goals and Miller had two and team-highs with three ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Seton Hill falls to 1-4 with the loss and Mercyhurst climbs to 4-2, snapping a two-game losing streak. The Lakers will play their home opener Saturday with a pivotal game against No. 9 Queens (N.C.) at noon at Tullio Field.
