Morgan Russell comes to Mercyhurst after playing five years of lacrosse at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. She will primarily be working with the defensive unit.While at Carolina, she was a three-year starter on line defense. Russell was named team captain her fourth year and led her team to a No.1 Division I ranking for five straight weeks. Carolina was the only team in the country in 2007 to beat both National Championship teams of Northwestern and Virginia. As a result, she earned the 2007 Carolina Leadership Award presented by her coaches and peers. Academically, Russell excelled in the classroom and was named the 2007 recipient of the Athletic Director Scholar-Athlete Award giving annually by the University of North Carolina to an athlete that excels both on the field and in the classroom. She also participated and successfully graduated from the Carolina Leadership three-year program in 2006. Russell was also active in numerous extracurricular activities such as SAAC, Carolina Outreach Program, and the CREED mentor program for freshman athletes at Carolina.
Morgan MacKenzie Russell is the daughter of Rory and Sally Jo Russell. She received her bachelor's degree in Peace, War, and Defense as well as American history from UNC in 2007. She is currently pursuing her master's degree in applied intelligence from Mercyhurst.
