Mercyhurst Tests Former College Hockey America-Member Quinnipiac This Weekend

Erie, Pa. - Complete Release in PDF Format No. 6/7 Mercyhurst puts its modest three-game winning streak on the line this weekend when the Bobcats of Quinnipiac visit for Friday (7) and Saturday (2) games. The Lakers are 17-5-2 overall and in the midst of an eight-game home stand. The Bobcats have lost four in-a-row and are 3-16-4 this season. Sophomore forward Meghan Agosta will attempt to stretch her record 18-game scoring streak against the Bobcats while senior goalie Laura Hosier will try to add to her club record 66 wins. Quinnipiac has played two other College Hockey America teams. QU defeated Robert Morris twice (2-1, 3-1) at home to start the new year, but lost a pair of road games at Wayne State last weekend (2-6, 2-5). Quinnipiac is now a part of the ECAC Hockey League.

Meghan Agosta has an 18-game scoring streak, a new team record. The last time she was kept off the board was at Minnesota Duluth in a 1-1 overtime tie on October 20. Agosta has 37 multiple-point games and 19 multiple-goal games in her career. She is first nationally in goal (31), goals-per-game (1.29), and shorthanded goals (6). She is tied for second in game-winning goals with eight. Junior Valerie Chouinard had Mercyhurst's only power play goal of the weekend (1 of 19). It was the 30th of her career. She now has a 4-game scoring streak. Senior Stephanie Jones' four-game scoring streak ended against Brown. Mercyhurst has nine shorthanded goals this season (Agosta 6). The Lakers had nine shorthanded goals in 2006-07. Mercyhurst has scored multiple power play goals in seven games this season. 19 of the team's 29 have come in those contests. Mercyhurst had 60 power play goals in 37 games last season; the Lakers have 29 in 24 games in 2007-08. 17 of the 24 power play goals Mercyhurst has allowed this season have come in six games. Senior goalie Laura Hosier has 66 career wins and 20 shutouts. She took over the career lead in wins two weeks ago at Providence and is second to Desi Clark's team record 24 shutouts. Mercyhurst finished last season +42 in special teams' play. The Lakers are +12 so far this season. Junior forward Valerie Chouinard has five power play goals this season and 30 in her career. She took over first place all-time recently from Stefanie Bourbeau, who finished her career last March with 25. Mercyhurst has outscored its first 24 opponents 32-12 in the first period. Ironically, Yale and Brown both scored first last weekend and outscored the Lakers a combined 3-1 in the first twenty minutes. Mercyhurst won for the first time this season when trailing after a period. Yale led 2-0 Friday. Mercyhurst and Quinnipiac played last season as the Lakers blanked the Bobcats 3-0 in the first-ever game played in their new facility. The Bobcats are now part of the ECAC Hockey League. |
