Agosta and Scanzano Claim College Hockey America Awards

Jan. 21, 2008

Detroit, Mich./Minneapolis, Minn. - Mercyhurst sophomore forward Meghan Agosta capped a sensational weekend by being named College Hockey America (CHA) Offensive Player of the Week today. Freshman winger Jesse Scanzano picked up Rookie of the Week honors as the Lakers solidified their hold on sixth place in the latest USCHO.com Division I Women's Poll released this afternoon. The separate announcements came from the CHA conference office in Detroit and the USCHO headquarters in Minneapolis.

Agosta had six goals and an assist and factored into all but two of the Lakers goals in 5-3 and 4-2 wins over Yale and Brown. She established a Mercyhurst record for consecutive game scoring streak (17) when she scored twice and assisted once in Friday's win over Yale. She broke her own record of 16 set last season. She then posted her third career 4-goal game in Saturday's 4-2 win over Brown and stretched her scoring streak to 18 games. Agosta also had 17 shots on goal in Saturday's conyest, another Mercyhurst one-game record. She leads the nation in goals (31), goals-per-game (1.29), and shorthanded goals (6). Her last goal Saturday was a shorthanded, empty net. She now has 31 goals and 19 assists for 50 points, all tops on the team. This time last season, she had 22 goals and 22 assists in the team's first 24 games (she missed two games because of a tournament).

Scanzano had a goal and two assists in a 2-0 weekend. Her seventh goal of the season late in the third against Yale was her second career game-winner. She also assisted on the final goal of the game. She then assisted on Agosta's second goal against Brown. She finished the two games with 11 shots and a +3 rating.
