Hosier and Schols Claim College Hockey America Defensive and Rookie Awards

Jan. 14, 2008

Detroit, Mich. - Mercyhurst senior goaltender Laura Hosier and freshman defender Cassea Schols are this week's College Hockey America Defensive Player and Rookie of the Week. The announcement came this afternoon from the conference office.

Hosier climbed into first place in Mercyhurst career wins when she was successful for the 64th time in a 3-0 shutout at Providence Sunday. Her total eclipses the prior mark of 63 which she shared with former netminder Desi Clark (2001-2005). The shutout was the 20th of her career, just four behind Clark's team record 24. Hosier is 11-4-2 this season with six shutouts and 64-14-9 overall.

Schols had a goal and an assist at Providence last weekend and had points in back-to-back games for the second time this season. She assisted on an early second period power play goal Saturday that tied the game at 2-2 and scored into an empty net Sunday. It was her second collegiate goal.

No. 6 Mercyhurst (15-5-2) returns to the Ice Center this Friday and Saturday when it hosts Yale and Brown respectively.
