#6 Princeton Edges #7 Mercyhurst, 4-3, in Overtime

Nov. 26, 2005

Box Score

Princeton, N.J. - Freshman forward Annie Greenwood's goal, 23 seconds into overtime, gave #6 Princetona 4-3 win over #7 Mercyhurst and a split of their weekend series. The Tigers, who lost 3-2 Friday night on a last-second Mercyhurst goal, improved to 5-3-2 overall while the Lakers fell to 7-6-1.

After a scoreless first period, the Lakers took a 1-0 lead at 4:28 of the second on a power play goal from junior defender Ashley Pendleton. The Tigers tied the game on a power play of their own five minutes later, but Mercyhurst recaptured the lead with less than two minutes to play in the period on a goal by junior forward Stefanie Bourbeau.

Princeton got out of the gate quickly in the third and scored twice within the first four minutes, the first on a power play, to grab a 3-2 advantage. But junior defender Jill Nugent got a power play equalizer at 14:59 to force overtime. Greenwood then wasted little time in deciding the contest with her fourth of the season.

Freshman forward Valerie Chouinard had a pair of assists to stretch her scoring streak to nine games. She factored in five of Mercyhurst's six goals in the two-game set.

Mercyhurst outshot Princeton 39-23 in the game and cashed 2 of 3 power play opportunities. The Tigers were 2 of 5 with the player advantage. Princeton senior netminder Roxanne Gaudiel, victimized in the last second by Chouinard Friday, got the win by making 36 saves while Mercyhurst sophomore Laura Hosier took the loss. The weekend split gave the Tigers a 7-4-1 lead in the all-time series.

Mercyhurst will return to the Ice Center next weekend for Saturday and Sunday afternoon games against Yale.
