Mercyhurst and Bemidji State Battle to 2-2 Overtime Tie

Nov. 11, 2005

Box Score

Bemidji, Minn. - Freshman forward Valerie Chouinard's team-leading seventh goal of the season, with just 29 seconds left in regulation, rallied Mercyhurst into a 2-2 overtime tie at Bemidji State Friday night. The Lakers are now 5-5-1 overall while the Beavers are 2-5-2.

The Lakers took a 1-0 lead midway in the first period on sophomore forward Kristen Erickson's first goal of the season. The score remained that way until the Beavers got a shorthanded marker from junior forward Kate Robinson at 12:07 of the second stanza. Bemidji State took a 2-1 lead with just two minutes left in regulation when junior forward Nikki Eckebrecht beat Lakers' sophomore goalie Laura Hosier. But, with Hosier pulled for an extra attacker in the game's last minute, freshman forward Valerie Chouinard knotted the game at 19:31.

Both teams hit a post in overtime, but could not light the lamp.

The Lakers outshot the Beavers 37-20 as BSU senior netminder Jill Luebke made 35 stops. Mercyhurst continues to lead the all-time series 6-1-2. The teams will conclude the weekend set tomorrow afternoon.
