Agosta Strikes Early to Propel Mercyhurst Over Robert Morris 6-0

Feb. 10, 2007

Stats

Erie, Pa. - After having her team-record 16-game scoring streak severed Friday against Robert Morris, freshman Meghan Agosta began a new streak Saturday. The Ruthven, Ontario, native scored twice in the game's first four minutes as the Lakers handed the Colonials a 6-0 shutout at the Ice Center to sweep the weekend series. The #1 Lakers improved to 27-1-2 overall and remained perfect in College Hockey America at 8-0. RMU fell to 11-17-2 and 1-7-0.

Agosta cashed her team-leading 15th power play goal and 30th of the season at 2:18 and banged home her 31st marker of the year, at even strength less than two minutes later, to begin a 4-goal first period. Agosta and senior Julia Colizza assisted on sophomore Valerie Chouinard's 24th lamplighter and 14th power play goal of the year at 8:47 while freshman Angelica Lorsell scored her 6th of the year and third of the series at 15:21. That goal knocked out RMU sophomore starter Brianne McLaughlin (8-12-2) in favor of freshman Heather Rossi.

Rossi allowed second period goals by junior Stephanie Jones, her 13th, and senior defender Ashley Pendleton, her 5th, to finish the scoring.

After scoring on its first two power play chances, Mercyhurst was blanked in its last nine efforts. The Colonials finished 0 for 7. Mercyhurst outshot Robert Morris 58-3.

Sophomore netminder Courtney Drennen benefited from the spirited play at both ends to improve her record to 5-0-1. Dreennen is unbeaten (14-0-2) in 16 career decisions.

Sophomore defender Natalie Payne had a second period assist to extend her scoring streak to 16 game, a team record for a defender.

Mercyhurst won all four regular season games against Robert Morris and outscored the Colonials a collective 21-0 in the process. The Lakers will entertain conference-rival Wayne State next Friday night at 7 and Saturday afternoon at 2 at the Ice Center. Saturday will be "Senior Day".
