Four Lakers Selected For Field Hockey Senior All-Star Game
Oct. 23, 2006 Erie, Pa. - The Mercyhurst field hockey team had four players selected to compete in the Division II North/South Senior All-Star Game Saturday, November 18 at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, N.C. at 5:30 p.m. Lauren Cohick, Lauren MacEllven, Megan Smaling and Julie Smith were all selected to represent Mercyhurst on the South team. The seniors have guided the Lakers to a 6-6 overall record this year, battling back from a 2-5 start to the season. Cohick has started all 12 games for Mercyhurst this year, totaling one assist as a defender. She has played 64 career games for the Lakers with five career goals. She is a team captain for Mercyhurst. MacEllven has also started all 12 games this year with two goals. A year ago, she had 16 goals and has 19 for her career. Smaling is another player with 12 starts this year and has played in 65 career games as a defender and midfielder. She leads as a team captain for the Lakers. Smith is a four-year starting goalkeeper for Mercyhurst, allowing 2.28 goals per game. She has played all but 19 minutes in goal this year for the Lakers and has a .786 save percentage. |
