Seton Hill Downs Laker Field Hockey in Season Finale

Oct. 30, 2007

Box Score

Erie, Pa. - Mercyhurst sophomore Kathryn Wicus scored her first goal of the season, but the Seton Hill Griffins held off the Lakers and sent them to a 2-1 loss in the season finale at Tullio Field.

With the loss, the Lakers conclude the 2007 campaign with a 4-12 record. Seton Hill, meanwhile, improved to 8-11 overall. It was the seventh time this season that a Mercyhurst game finished with 2-1 final score. Only two of those games, however, ended in a Laker victory.

Mercyhurst dominated the first half statistically, earning nine penalty corners and taking 11 shots. The team's first goal, however, did not come until the 23:35 mark, when sophomore Emily Warren found Wicus to tie the game at one.

Seton Hill's goalkeeper Meredith Benson made six saves in the first half to keep the Lakers at bay while her teammate Krista Archambeau scored at the 20:13 mark on a penalty corner, and Holly Thomas capped the scoring 12 minutes later off an assist from Caroline Smith.

Mercyhurst out-shot Seton Hill by a 22-11 margin and held a 15-7 edge in penalty corners. It was the most corners earned by the Lakers this season, and the 22 shots taken were tied for a season high, as well. Benson, however, finished the game with nine saves.

The loss ended a run of six-straight season finale victories for the Lakers.

The game was also the final game for Mercyhurst seniors Erin Kelleher and Nicole Rapacki. Both players were four-year members of the squad.
